Bicycle Indiana's objectives in obtaining a special group recognition license plate are to inform and educate bicyclists and non-bicyclists about the purpose and benefits of using a bicycle as a mode of transportation.
In conjunction with the League of American Bicyclists' Bicycle Friendly State program, our emphases are on the following:
Education - We will educate both bicyclists and motorists about the safe usage of bicycling for transportation and legal requirement of all parties.
Engineering - We will host seminars throughout the state to assist planners, policy-makers, and citizens to understand the concepts and processes involved with planning roadways and communities for sustainable bicycle transportation.
Encouragement - We will continue to host a series of statewide programs such as bike-to-work-day to encourage Hoosiers to use a bicycle as a routine mode of transportation.
Enforcement - We will work with state and local law enforcement to ensure safe passage on Indiana's roadways.
Evaluation & Planning - We will continue to work with the League of American Bicyclists, city planners, Metropolitan Planning Organizations and local bicyclists to evaluate Indiana's progress and make recommendations to move Indiana toward a bicycle friendly community and state.
